Another $20 Challenge question..

June 8th, 2007 at 05:19 am

Let's say you find something you like which you don't buy often anyway, and you buy it on sale or a coupon or something. Is that still saving money? You're still SPENDING money to save..? I think it would make more sense to have coupons for things you often buy like food or toilet paper or things like that.

This $20 challenge still confuses the heck out of me haha =]

Personally, I don't add coupon savings to my $20 challenge, bu that's the part I like about it: you can run it however YOU see fit...

To your question: I wouldn't add the savings unless you'd planned on buying the item in question and had budgeted or set aside a certain amount of money. Like a gift: if I budgeted $25 but found something on amazing clearance for $10 that will definitely be a good, stand alone gift, then I would add the remaining $15 to the challenge.

Yes, I would add the savings if i used a coupon or found something on sale.

I run into the same thing. If I receive a coupon for something that I wouldn't have bought, I normally don't count it. On buy one, get 1 free, I don't count that either. If it's something that I normally buy or would have bought regardless of the brand, I count it. Anything that I clip from the Sunday Newspaper sales, I count.
